(Intersection) (Premiere in May 2022 Faro – Portugal)

Artistic Residency and field research – from OCTOBER 2021 to APRIL 2022

ENCRUZILHADA (Intersection) is a Performing Installation created, directed and performed by the performer and choreographer AnaVitória.

An immersive space that dialogues with the idea of “penetrables” or “Curative Tent” where sculptory pieces built by the artist stand, containing anonymous portraits of women – photographic registers from the 20’s to the 60’s. Each object contains an affective reliquary of memorial objects recovered by the artist at flea markets, thrift shops and antique stores, based on stories told during artistic residencies from women of small villages North and South of Portugal about their feminine practices, their affective memories and imaginaries. AnaVitória will be at the center, the intersection place, to give body, affective tone, voice and presence to these women based on her presencial interpretation, recovering her own matrilineal chain, where her great-grandmothers, grandmothers, mother, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – who knows nothing or very little about their stories – reconnect through a performative ritual, according to the concept of art as a trigger to existence.
